Help veterans get the care they deserve

It’s tragic veterans still don’t have the same options as most Americans regarding where and when they can access health care. Worse, the VA is acting more as a gatekeeper to care, seemingly determined to keep veterans trapped in the VA’s bureaucratic, backlogged, and inconvenient system rather than making sure veterans can get the care they need.

The Veterans Health Care Freedom Act would ensure veterans, not the bureaucracy, remain the focus of the VA by creating a pilot program to empower veterans with true choice in their health care decisions. This would ensure the VA is accountable for caring for veterans rather than acting as a bureaucratic barrier.

Self-serving practices by the VA are a grave disservice to our veterans and detrimental to their wellbeing and prosperity in our country. It’s simply not what we promised them when they signed up to serve.

Expanding the health care options we give to our veterans is key to meeting the changing needs of today and tomorrow’s veterans. The Veterans Health Care Freedom Act would make health care choice a reality for veterans, rather than an exception.

I urge you to co-sponsor and support S.1545 / H.R.3176, the Veterans Health Care Freedom Act, and support it when it comes before you for a vote.

Amid an ongoing global pandemic, record inflation, and supply chain issues (to name just a few), Americans are facing enough hurdles to realizing their dreams and living their best lives. The last thing we need is for our government to add more barriers to our freedom and prosperity.

The Veterans Health Care Freedom Act empowers veterans with greater choice and flexibility to access health care where it best meets their needs.

As the VA continues to restrict and deny veterans’ access to the options afforded to them in the VA MISSION Act, this bill will remove the barriers many veterans continue to face in accessing care closer to home or at higher quality facilities in their local communities.

It’s simple – our nation’s heroes should have the option to choose the health care provider that best meets their needs, even when that means taking their benefits outside of the VA to get that care.
