Restore Accountability at the VA
Veterans Deserve a VA That Puts Them First

America’s veterans deserve a health care system that works for them.
But when misconduct or poor performance occurs inside the Department of Veterans Affairs, the system often fails to hold employees accountable. Bureaucratic rules and lengthy appeals processes can make it extremely difficult to discipline or remove employees whose actions harm veterans or undermine the VA’s mission.
Congress previously passed reforms in 2017 to give VA leadership stronger tools to address misconduct and poor performance. Unfortunately, court rulings and administrative decisions have weakened those tools and made it harder for the VA to act when problems occur.
The Restore VA Accountability Act (S.124) would strengthen the VA’s ability to hold employees accountable and ensure the department is focused on serving veterans.
The legislation restores key accountability tools so VA leadership can address misconduct and poor performance quickly and fairly.
