Tell Biden: Get Our Troops Out of Harm’s Way
The lives of American soldiers are on the line in fights that aren’t making America safer.
Since October, American forces in the Middle East have been attacked over 160 times. Recently, 3 U.S. Army Reserve troops were killed by a drone attack at the Tower 22 base, near the Jordanian border with Syria, and 40 more were injured, many with potentially life-altering traumatic brain injuries. These reservists, on deployment to a remote, vulnerable base for a mission that has unclear objectives and an endless span, were put in harm’s way for reasons that are vague, poorly defined, and unauthorized by Congress.
Now, as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise and the Biden Administration weighs how to respond, our country faces the prospect of a regional war that we cannot afford to fight given our current overstretch. Our troops’ isolated and vulnerable positions across Syria, Iraq, and Jordan allow our adversaries the advantage of being able to easily target them. These deployments do not advance critical security interests—America should protect its troops and limit its adversaries’ advantages by redeploying from Iraq, Syria, and Jordan.
Send this letter to your lawmakers and the President today to tell them to strengthen America’s posture by removing our troops from vulnerable positions that leave them at the mercy of Iranian proxy groups – and for Congress to exercise its war powers authority to prevent these situations in the first place.
